American Country ...Gilmore Girls Style

Anyone who has spent some time in the country towns in Virginian or Connecticut will have been lucky enough to have seen the beautiful  and unique style of the homes and interior decor. Fortunately with the internet you can see it all for free.

The Gilmore Girls home in the tv show

I'm a bit obsessed with Gilmore Girls because its one of the few shows that celebrate diverse families, community, womanhood and life without the need for anything smutty. The homes really reflect that sensibility too.  

One of the things I love about this style is that it is cosy and homey, much like what I have tried to create in my own home. The decor is simple, old, recycled and most importantly affordable.

You can easily get this look by shopping in second hand stores and recovering and painting recycled furniture and homewares.

This kitchen could easily be at home in one of the homes in Stars Hollow (the fictional town where the tv show is set). The eclectic mix creates a warm feel with a pop of red colour and some green natural elements it has an instant country feel.

Creating a bedroom with that Gilmore Girls feel means adding a mix of stripes, florals and the essential white bed linen.    If you prefer a blue and white colour palette this is a good example of how you can achieve a similar feel.
